This work resulted from artistic and technological experiments in algorithmic
gardening, using machine learning for the identification and interaction with
plants. A two-armed robot picks up a plant and examines it, before carefully
putting it down again. Exaggerated into larger-than-life proportions and
rendered in strong black and white contrasts, this seemingly simple task invites
viewers to imagine new and surprising narratives around nature and technology.
Specifically at this location in urban São Paulo, the video connects the iconic
facade of Paulo Mendes da Rocha's FIESP Cultural Center with the surrounding landscape
architecture of Roberto Burle Marx.
